I’m a running for City Council District 3 because I believe in amplifying your voice and realizing your vision for a better future in our community.

Meet Teresa

Hi, I'm Teresa Garcia — a dedicated, bilingual Democrat and proud candidate for City Council District 3.

I’m a first-generation Mexican Indigenous graduate from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. As the daughter of an immigrant and a Vietnam Air Force veteran, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our families face—and the power of standing up to demand better.

I’ve lived in the Southwest Mesa for over 14 years, not just as a neighbor, but as an advocate. From the City Council podium to community forums, I’ve shown up to elevate the concerns of our residents and push for real solutions. I believe in community-driven change, and I’ve led it—connecting with community, neighbors, organizing with purpose, and helping deliver proven outcomes through inclusive leadership.

Now, I’m running for City Council because District 3 deserves more.

We deserve:

  • Safe neighborhoods where families can thrive,

  • Reliable infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing community,

  • Economic development and jobs that reflect our potential,

  • Standing with Immigrants to protect immigrant rights,

  • And innovative progress rooted in the voices of those who live here—not those who profit from our silence.

As Chair of the City of Albuquerque’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Commission, I’ve worked at the intersection of public safety, health equity and survivor advocacy. I bring experience in coalition-building, cross-sector collaboration, and a deep understanding of how policy must reflect the people it’s meant to serve.

My campaign is about Community. Change. Voice.
A new vision for District 3—your vision—grounded in compassion, accountability, transparency and real results.

Let’s build a stronger District 3, together.

My Priorities for District 3

Reduce Crime and Improve Public Safety

I will work closely with law enforcement and community leaders to support effective policing, and invest in crime prevention initiatives to keep our families safe.

Invest Reliable Infrastructure

I will prioritize repairing our roads, upgrading sidewalks, and improving stormwater drainage so that everyone in District 3 can enjoy safe, accessible, and well-maintained public spaces.

I will work to provide opportunities for local businesses, supporting their growth, attracting new industries, and creating job opportunities for residents. By uplifting our neighborhood entrepreneurs and small business owners, we can build a stronger, more self-sustaining economy right here in District 3.

Economic Development and Jobs

I will work by encouraging smart city technologies, sustainable practices, and forward-thinking solutions for urban challenges.

Innovative Progress
Stand with Immigrant Rights

As the proud daughter of an immigrant, I understand the value and contributions of our immigrant communities. I will advocate for policies that protect immigrant rights, ensure equal access to city services, and promote dignity and respect for all residents—regardless of where they were born. Immigrants in District 3 are hardworking, tax-paying members of our community, and they deserve representation that defends their humanity and their future.

Standing with Our Immigrant Communities

I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves and tackle a challenge—whether I’m under the hood of a car or working to make our city a better place for everyone. Growing up in a family that values hard work and hands-on problem solving, I learned early on that real change comes from dedication and teamwork.

As the daughter of a Vietnam veteran, I also understand firsthand the sacrifices our veterans make and the challenges they face. My personal journey advocating for my father’s recognition and disability rating has fueled my deep commitment to ensuring all veterans receive the resources and support they deserve.

As I run for City Council, I’m ready to put in the effort, listen to our community, and fight for those who’ve fought for us. I will work every day to deliver real results—for our neighborhoods, our families, and our veterans.

Ready to get to work

As a proud first-generation daughter of a resilient immigrant mother, I was raised with the values of dignity, respect, and hard work. My family taught me that every person deserves to be treated with humanity—no matter where they come from. These values are the foundation of who I am and why I’m running to represent District 3.

I will always stand by our immigrant communities and the generations of families who call the South West Mesa home. In me, they will have a relentless advocate—someone who not only understands their struggles but fights every day to ensure they are treated with dignity and fairness.
